Gingerbread man

Looking for a perfect Christmas gift? My favourite man mr gingerbread never fails to bring smile to anyone's face young or old.

Last night we went to have dinner at Emon in Surry Hills my workmate gave everyone a gingerbread cookies which bring lots of smiles to the table

If you are interested in making it yourself here are my gingerbread recipe:

Ingredients

  • 140g butter
  • 1 cup (160g) brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup (175g) treacle
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp ground cloves
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla essence
  • 4 cups (600g) plain flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • Icing, to decorate
  • Thin ribbon, to hang

Method

  1. Melt the butter, brown sugar, treacle, cinnamon, ginger and cloves in a saucepan over a medium heat. Set aside.
  2. Stir in the eggs and vanilla essence. Stir in the flour and baking powder until smooth. Divide the dough into 3 portions. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until firm.
  3. Preheat oven to 180°C. Line two baking trays with nonstick baking paper. Roll out 1 portion of the dough to 4mm thick between 2 sheets of baking paper. Use Christmas cookie cutters to cut out biscuit shapes. Place on the trays.
  4. Use the end of a piping nozzle to make a hole in the top of each biscuit. Bake for 5-10 minutes or until golden and firm. Repeat with the remaining dough portions. Transfer to a wire rack to cool.
  5. Decorate with icing. Thread with ribbon to hang on the Christmas tree.

Balcony bar

Went for dinner on Monday night with a couple of girls from work at Balcony Bar, which was very nice.

I just discover this bar recently and wholly impressed by it, it's just a small intimate bar with nice wine list and weekly menus.

I had the Monday 3 course meal deal for $40 incl a bottle of red from the hunter valley. The service is a little slow as there were only two person minding the bar, but really that's the only downside, everything else including my haloumi, steak and dessert was perfect.

So... Planning s relax dinner or catch up with a special place, this is a place to be.

My little galaxy

Currently i'm loving this galaxy print dress as part of my bright colour obsession its subtle enough to wear during the day and fun enough to wear at night.

Since its sort of an office event i'm going to team it with my leather jacket but the dancing shoes will not join the team this time instead i'm going to go for comfort with my ankle boots well...unless its too hot...

oh so fun!

Mild mild summer

This summer seems to be a very mild summer with rains and cloudy day, might not sound very enticing but the weather is a great excuse to wear ankle boots and layers of clothes which i love and the air is less humid which i prefer!

Still a bit of sunshine will be good though , it means i can go back to my swimming after work.

Melbourne

Melbourne, Victoria

My last melbourne trip was really fun, i went to the office to work for few days, on this trip i also manage to finally go to DFO for some shopping. There are just sooo many restaurants in Melbourne that i wanna go to. Melbourne does look like a big city but somehow there are just so much to explore, lilttle laneways,  carfes, bars, art displays, museums, it has such european feeling to it with the victorian terraces and old buildings.

On the weekend i walked around town and noticed some strange sculpture scattered around melbourne CBD

  • Fave hotel in melbourne: Sofitel
  • Fave Restaurant: Cumulus Inc
  • Fave Cafe: Koko Black Chocolates

Dock Shoes

I love the ocean, sailing, surfing, snorkeling you name it!
Growing up on the northern beaches, it is almost impossible for me to live inland or really far far away from the water. If i ever get a chance i would love to learn how to sail, i had a few basic lessons and loving it!

So this summer my best friend for sunny day is the pair of new boat shoes, super comfy and they look cute with almost everything. They come in 3 different colours black, beige and white. They are very similar with loafer, wear them without socks but if you are not very comfortable with that sockettes always come in handy.

The beautiful and strange land of Sweden

 Stockholm, Sweden

ABBA, Roxette and Swedish House Mafia! yes they are all made in Sweden, the first time i ever step foot in Sweden i was surprised on how empty the airport is. Unlike any other airport in other big city in Europe Stockholm Arlanda is incredibly clean and again there weren't that many ppl!!

My boyfriend picked me up and we caught the bus to Stockholm, the view was crazy for someone that never step foot in the northern part of north of the world, I've never seen that my pine trees in my whole life, they are basically everywhere and between the woods you can see a traditional red swedish farm house with white window and flower gardens...oh soooo very cute...

50 minutes later we entered Stockholm and i was in total shock! If you think Singapore is clean imagine this city is cleaner and more beautiful with old buildings and gorgeous harbor, lined with beautiful flowers everywhere.

The Stockholmers are very cool towards visitors they just passed you and go about their own thing but when you need help they are very helpful and very polite, mind you physical contact is a big no no unless you know the person so yes you cant just grab anyone or touch them.

On the first day we went to Skansen open air museum, which has everything from traditional house from the Viking time to Swedish animals.

Tips:
  • Swedish cinnamon roll dust with sugar in Skansen Museum
  • Bike around stockholm, very very beautiful
  • Go out! Stockholm is the place for lux bars, so dress up and have a drink or two
  • Vasa Museet, a ship that sunk even before it sails.....go there have a laugh and very interesting swedish maritime history... which is constant war.....
  • Skagen sandwich...prawns, caviar, mayo
  • Swedish Meatballs of course!
  • Love to decorate your house...u have endless choice of very cool design houses scattered around the city
  • London is not the only one that got Changin of Guards ceremony, the swedish are big on this as well check out the royal palace it is for free! plus you get to perve on hot swedish boys in uniform...welll hello officer!
  • Drinks are expensive so its nice to do bar hopping just to check out the places
  • You can go around the city for free by tram if you bought the hourly ticket and just go around by tram for an hour
  • Shop Shop Shop lots of brands and design that you cant find in Oz

Little Black Dress

It is compulsary for every girl with any budget to own a little black dress, so the other day i found a gorgeous body contour black dress with lace and sparkles. Its short and the material is thin enough but the long sleeves keeps you warm at night protect you from cold so you dont start sniffin after a fun night even in summer or dance floor.

Very important: Health comes first!

The lace pattern also created a slimming effect of the lower body parts as i have muscular legs. My favourite part is the sparkly material on the sleeves, there is no need to wear any bracelet or bangles that sometimes can get in a way of comfort or simply missing in action.

Any shape and sizes will look Va Va Voom in a black dress here are some tips :
  • Black dress is timeless it will never go out of fashion
  • If you have a high budget, then invest in a very good quality simple black dress or you can just splurge on gorgeous sparkly dress!
  • If you low on a budget, it doesnt have to be expensive a plain black dress that is just above the knee length or midi, for you to wear on every occasion (even work!) will be the best choice.
  • There is different type of dresses from the flirty tea or skater dress to body contour. Pick the one that suits your body shape not what is currently in fashion.
  • Comfort comfort comfort comfort that is the magical word if its not comfortable when you have it on, simply DONT BUY IT. Because in most cases you will not wear it.
  • Accessorise it! sometimes with different accessories the same dress will look like you got different dress on. So put your blings out or just simply a statement jacket/blazer.
Finally the most important thing is POSITIVE ATTITUDE can make ten bucks dress look billion dollar.

Have fun x

Hej Copenhagen

Nyhavn, Denmark

Gateway to Scandinavia, the land where Lego comes from, have to say great shopping and party town. The Danish is very chic and friendly making this place such an amazing place to visit. Love hot dogs, the danes is very proud of their hot dog stalls that scattered around town great if only Sydney got that too mmmmmm....

We had a big night at Kulorbar in Nyhaven just 5 min away from our hostel. The line was pretty long and 60 kroner to get in so i thought 'THIS BETTER BE FREAKING AWESOME!' the verdict is......IT WAS MEGA AWESOME!! free bar drink as much as you want Calsberg yeah of course i went out of control and my liver got the worse torture ever! 18 beers apparently yeah probably less i dont know...i did cuddle all of the beer mug.

Apart from trashbagin i did do some sight seeing Amelienborg Castle is the only place i could manage after big trashbagin, i then decided to visit an old friend that i didnt manage to catch up with the last time i was in Copenhagen which is the Little Mermaid however she is still on vacation in Shanghai.

Ladies if you love your men clean cut, with simple chic outfit Denmark is the perfect place for you to perve on them. Remember when the oldies remind you 'Staring is rude!! stop it!!' yes thats what basically my travel buddy keep telling me! and yes i was that creepy girl that stares at those gorgeous men!

Back to the day of my biggest hangover ever I went into 7-11 to save myself and grab 6 galons of water i saw the most mesmerising men i've ever seen in my life, he was blonde 6.2Ft, black ray band clear glasses, black slim fit suit, skinny tie and black shiny leather shoes and crisp white shirt...he looks like he just come out of photoshoot and leaning on his bike, he described everything geek chic! which i love....but hey i have my very own gorgeous swedish man at home...but nothing wrong with perving on gorgeous men once in a while isnt it?

I will definitly comeback there is a whole lot of bar i would like to explore

Falling in love deeply with Berlin

Berlin, Germany

Berlin I LOVE YOU! if you are a guy i've married you!
Ok sounds weird but thats how much i love Berlin, the coolest city i've ever been to, here you wont even be able to tell which one are new architecture and which are the classic architecture considering the whole city got destroyed in World War II. Such a vibrant and cultured city, full of beautiful cafes, trendy shops, clubs, bars and history.

The best way to get around Berlin is  to cycle, you can hire a bike almost from everywhere. Be very careful it is a big city so always read your map before getting on your bike. Not far from our hostel is the museum island with more than 25+ museums which is like porn for museum lovers. We decided to visit Pergamon which is an ancient history museum dated back to Byzantine and Roman age, as soon as we stepped in my jaw basically dropped and i cant put it back up, i started drooooooooling (for real) over the exhibitions

Yep the photo above is for real! its an actual size of roman temple that got excavated -> packed up to germany -> put it back piece by piece. Just plain insaneeeeee and just because its not awesome enough they also got the Ishtar gate, if you are not sure what it is you should check it out. and again they build it piece by piece and luckly enough did not get destroyed by the war completely.
Right enough about the museum, i can talk about it all day, i think you should just check it out yourself. Now for the party animals, berlin is pretty amazing from cllubs to illegal bars anything you want is there. If you are looking for crazy night out and dont mind paying for bad hangover go to the absinthe bar, where u can torture your liver and brain. however even its a monday night dont hold back because Berlin's night life is basically 24/7 which is extremely impressive. I cant show you the whole evidence, but the photo below is the  proof of crime.

Lyon and Au Revoir France

Lyon, France

Beautiful little city we only have the day/night here and obviously it is not enough!
According to some traveller Lyon is famous for its good food famous destination for the gourmet traveller. I have to say that i didnt get to experience the foodie thing but i manage to taste Lyons traditional pork sausages which is mouth watering and a little too generous on the portion.

The little hotel we are stayed at got this cute little balcony which i was very impressed at and sitting around reading and having tea on a balcony in france is one of the thing i always dreamed of and it is now accomplished, which oh la la my heart sings...

Avignon the walled city!

Avignon, France

Ever wonder how it feels like to live inside a walled city? call me a nerd but i adore 'King Arthur' and 'Robin Hood' when i was a kid. Now that im older i have some sort of fascination with everything from Victorian
Era.

So.. in order to satisfy my childhood imagination and of course tasting a bit of wine from cote-d-azure region as per my travelling friend advise (of course!) i have decided to tag along to Avignon. Funny thing is we arrived in this ultra modern train station which nowhere look medieval to me, but after a 15 bus ride from the station all i see is one big giant wall...yes i was extremely impressed, when i stepped into the city wall i was speechless, its such a different feeling and my brain is starting to imagine things on how things would look like back then.

The current Avignon is pretty modern with shops, H&M and even an Irish Bar stashed away conveniently around the corner. Plais Du Pope is very interesting however pretty expensive to get in and it takes you at least a day to get around and guarantee you'll get sore feet from walking around on cobble stone all day.

One thing i learned from it is DO NOT PAY TO SEE THE HALF BUILD BRIDGE, just the walk around outside the wall and you'll bound to have a better view of it.

There is not much night entertainment there but nice little city to relax and unwind. Therefore to entertain ourselves we did a wine tour and it was fun, the wine region is stunning and people are just very nice and friendly. I thoroughly enjoyed the little villages, i even managed to fall asleep in the middle of a public picnic table. When i look up i can see the sunshine trough the green leaves its so beautiful that i recommend you to actually have a micro sleep ...zzZZZzzz

Bonjour Nice!

Nice, France
Nice is nice hahaha! ok not that funny but the fact is Nice is very nice...oui! very very nice...

Enough of the niceness so amazing beach, great people, an hour and a bit from monaco, easy to get around and endless beautiful view im not suprised if the french dont travel! As you can see most of the beach are filled with rocks instead of sands and it is a bit of a mission to actually go for a swim. Really you dont wanna hit your head on the rocks incase you slipped.

Talking about view as i mentioned everywhere you turn around its like a post card. Beside lazing around and stuffed myself with great food i did managed to get to do a day trip to surrounding area. To make it easier i'll list it below!

Day Trip:

  • Monaco
  • Jean Cap Du Ferrat, very very very amazing view...breathtaking
  • Cannes, Old town and Stand Up Paddle in one of the quiet beach
Activities:
  • Eat at Truffle Restaurant, everything with truffles from entree to dessert, if you got budget go for lunch option so treat yourself to a little luxury
  • Walk around old town, its like a maze you bound to get lost in it (literaly)
  • Cycle along the beach
If i have the chance the next trip i would love to go sailing, the hostel im staying with got a sailing daytrip again...i missed it because of course...the sad limited time..... :(

Have fun x

hello world!

Finally i managed to transfer my blog from my old one to this new blogger after few months of hiatus. So in this blog i will share my travel fave. I always think that my life is one big holiday and my glass is always half full, YES!! i know sounds very pessimistic but to me it is the only way to keep myself happy at the most difficult situation. Travel is my passion, i always booked a holiday after another one so that i have something to look forward to.

So here are some of my verdict on my last trip to Europe in June 2011

Amsterdam

The first city i've ever been to in Europe, as soon as i arrived i've fallen in love with it. Amsterdam will always be home far away from home for me its like colonial Indonesia. Not the main gastronomic fans destination but i have to say that their Indonesian food is the best! comparing to other european countries, the rijstafel is must is something that you must try,  it is westernised version of javanese prasmanan rich in spices and very very very tasty.

Another thing that i love the most about Amsterdam is of course the cycle way, the fact that its flat and you can cycle around the city in one day (non stop that is) its simply enjoyable. So for all the bike enthusiast ladies this is the place where you can cycle with your prettiest dress and of course looking gorgeous as usual :)

PinkPop!
Pinkpop at landgraaf a three days camping  dance-to rock to new age concert in Landgraaf. The verdict: MEGA AWESOME! ok nuff said... awesome line up, cool crowds, great food and no queue on drinks!! ah festival fans must try! 60000 ppl rockin together im definitly a fan. However i didnt do the whole three days, sadly as we are a bit tight on schedule :(  but if there is another chance i would definitly go for the 3 days experience!
